School, Books, and Other Oddities

Wow, it has been a year since I graduated from high school... That is just insane to me. I have a little less than a week left of college this year and I should be on track for graduation next year. Jarvis on the other hand might not be. Jen too is having some troubles at the university she is attending, but let's not go into that.

On the upside, it meant that my sister graduated from high school!! Yay! She will be leaving home and I won't have to see her everyday!! *does happy dance* I'm not excited at all...LOL. We had her graduation party recently and I had the opportunity to see an old friend. He isn't old, we have just known each other for a while, a long while. We got to talking and when he had to leave he gave me three hugs!! *fan girl screams* Sorry, it has been three years since I have had male contact that wasn't related to me... Anywho.

For anyone who doesn't know, I am an avid book reader. I have recently started rereading the Harry Potter series and have been enjoying myself. I am trying to get through the sixth book before the movie comes out in July (I'm going to go to the midnight showing!!). I have also been keeping up with author Tony Abbott and his books that are coming out. They are getting better and better. Jarvis and I are now reading two of his series: The Secrets of Droon and The Haunting of Derek Stone. Derek Stone is amazing!! I can't wait to get my hands on the third book!

In other oddities, Jarvis has a boyfriend. Yeah, I knew it would happen someday. He is actually a good guy and he is friend approved. The only thing is Jen and I now never see Jarvis. This is kinda hard on our friendship, but we will make it through. The three of us recently went to Disney Pixar's Up and we thought it was amazing! If you haven't seen it you totally should! It has the funniest story line ever! It really makes up for the Toy Story 3 trailer at the beginning of the movie.

The Amazingness of Tony Abbott

Just the last Friday (November 7), my friend, let's call her Jarvis, and I got autographed copies of Secrets of Droon. Jarvis received book 25 and I received the latest book, book 33. We both also got signed maps of the land of Droon where most of the stories take place.

We were so excited when we saw that the books had arrived that we started jumping and fan girl screaming...Jarvis even said that it was like we were ten-years-old...not young adults at the age of 18-19...

We are also glad that the latest book (Flight of the Blue Serpent) didn't have any sand pony, pilka mistakes...(this is in reference to a previous post specifically called Sand Ponies and Pilkas...). This book was just really sad at the end and made us question what was going to happen next. At the end of the book the main character was in a life or death situation and his two friends from his world had to return home. It was a major cliff hanger! Which, by the way, kinda suck if you don't get the next book when it comes out because you live in a town that doesn't have a book store and you have to leave town to find it...*takes a deep breath* Sorry, I needed to rant.

I also have a job now at the new events center in town. Last weekend at work was practically hell...It was for days of High School Musical on Ice...*eye twitch* How Disney fit two two hour long movies in to one hour and a half I don't know but I swear the music from it was stuck in my head all week last week. I was so happy when I found out that it was hockey this weekend. At least with hockey you get a wide variety of music you usually hear at sporting events. I also work with this really cute guy...he flirts with me and we have a good time, but he has a girlfriend...*shakes head* Why is it always me that has the guy problems. None of my friends do. I guess it is just me.

School is going good and I'm excited because the twilight movie comes out in 11 days! Also two of my friends are coming home from college for Thanksgiving and I can't wait to see them! I suppose that I shall eagerly await the arrival of the next Droon book now...*sigh*

Math, Homework and Ex-Boyfriend = Mental Ticks

Hey! It is the second week of college for me! I am having a lot of fun, if you don't account for the homework and trying to relearn factoring in a different way...

I have three class as the local community college and they take up a ton of time. I have news for those of you out there who don't know this already: Never take and English class and a Math class at the same time in college. It is a time sucker. I really, really like my English class. My prof. is so funny. I am also taking study skills 101. Class starts everyday with a useless fact and a stupid joke. Today's useless fact was that people who live in the city have thicker nose hair than those who live in the country. There were some very disgusted girls. I thought it was funny. I also have Math 97 because I scored too low on the compass test to get into a college level math class, but then again I also suck at math.

Seeing as I am taking English and Math at the same time I have hardly enough time left after homework to do anything fun. Like writing my blog! *shakes head* I know, it's very sad. I will also have a job soon. I have orientation for work tomorrow. I think work will be fun and I'm going to be working with at least one person that I know.

Now, the part that most likely caught your eye. My ex-boyfriend. I haven't seen him or talked to him since he graduated from high school in 2007. But oh wait! We go to the same local college now and I saw him today. My heart started to beat faster and I was panicking on the inside while I talked to him. I kept my cool on the outside, just like and Aes Sedai from the Wheel of Time series. It was a short conversation, but it left me all brain scrambled the rest of the day. Sounds great, huh?

So, college is awesome (except for the small possibility of running into my ex again) and I love my classes, excluding the homework. I think this school year is going to be fun.

Harry Potter and Twilight

My world was turned upside down today. First off I found out that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (the movie) release had been moved clear into June of 2009. I feel so shocked that the WB could do that to the fans. Yes, I know things have been hard, but really do they want a mob of hard core fans showing up to protest? I wouldn't think so. I was really looking forward to seeing the Harry Potter movie in November. I would have been a chance to see one of my good friends who is going away to college this year. Now, I'll still get to see her, but it won't be for Harry Potter (our one true fix of the last few years). I am so totally bummed that even this next news later today didn't lift me from the sadness.

Twilight (the movie) is now scheduled to come out on the day Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was to come out. Yes, I am also a hard core fan of Twilight, but Harry Potter will be foremost in all of my books and movies. They are my favorite and I have been following Harry's story since fourth grade.

I know, I know I'll just have to accept the fact that I'll have to trade my greatest love for my second greatest, but it just isn't right in my mind. Now my count down is seriously screwed up, for both events!!

How could you do this!? Why, WB, why? I feel as I just found out my birthday was going to be a year late. How could they do this? Do they really want one of the biggest fan bases against them? Well, probably not, but maybe they weren't thinking that...Maybe they weren't thinking at all. Just like all the other movie/tv companies. They just don't think. Don't even get me started on CBS and Moonlight. *shakes head*

I am just so sad.

Funerals, Witches, and Book Releases

This past week has been hard. A close family friend, who was like an aunt to me, died on July 23. She had a long and strong fight against skin cancer, but in the end the cancer won. What was really sad was that I had seen her on the weekend and she was fine. My mom, who has been practically been living there for three months, called after we got home that weekend to say that my aunt by choice had gone drastically down hill. Three days later, Mom called to say that she had died.

Lisa, I just want you to know that I love you. You have helped me through so many things and I love every little thing you have ever given me. I will miss you, but I know that you are in a better place with the ones you love that had gone on before you. I just want to let you know that Suzie misses you everyday and still looks around for you when the door opens. I love you very much and I'm sorry that I never really said it to you before you passed. Hugs and Kisses.

Now, on July 29 was the funeral mass, yes, she was Catholic, and her mother was dressed so strangely. *shakes head* There is a reason we call her Crazy Cathy... But the night before at the Vigil, Crazy Cathy had this long shawl on and seriously looked like a witch. It was a little frightening. At the funeral she was wearing, I really don't know what, but her granddaughter said that she needed a shawl, and I leaned over and said, "Then she would really look like a witch." We had a good laugh over that.

Once again, I am living through history and I will not be able to participate. Breaking Dawn is coming out tonight at 12:01 and I won't be able to get it until tomorrow afternoon at the latest. It sucks, because I wanted to go to the midnight release and I have found myself on a trip and not able to go. The same thing happened last summer with both the Harry Potter movie release and the Harry Potter book release. It really is suckish. So now I shall pout until after midnight and know that my friends have the book before me.

My Boring Friday Night

Okay, so I lied about the fire. It got so much worse, really, really fast.

Friday night my dad said that we were going to go and get dinner, then go to the gun club and see how far the fire got. I mostly went along to get dinner.

The two of us ended up at his friend's place with the fire right above us. His friend even got a level 2 evacuation notice while we were there. I took a ton of pictures and by the time my dad thought it might be time for us to leave (about ten minutes after we arrived), the highway was closed. We didn't even get the level 3 evacuation notice, even though we were supposed to be leaving. I mean, where would we have gone? The highway was closed.

Here are some pictures. They go from left to right, one row at a time. (I have to remove the photos for now...I’ll re-upload them again in the future...)

As you can see the fire got pretty close. There was only orchard between me and the fire. It was pretty scary. But it was pretty cool at the same time.
We got to my dad's friend's place at about 9 that night and we left at about 11:30 when the road was finally opened. When my dad and I got home we both smelled like smoke and I took a shower. I washed my hair twice and I could still smell smoke.
So that was my boring friday...Yeah, right.

What do You do For Fun?

Well, I hope that this question is thought over carefully. Where I live summer fun consists of going swimming in the local river, staying inside (because of the heat), or during twilight hours - if there is a wildfire near by - go fire watching!

Sounds exciting, doesn't it? My thoughts exactly. *shakes head* Fire watching is exactly what I did last night. The fire burned about a 1/4 of a mile while we watched a certain part. Other parts were further because the wind was blowing really hard. Let's just say that the people who have very expensive houses on the top of a near by ridge were getting a little worried. *laughs*

So far the only evacuation notices are at a level one. There are only three levels: one, two, and three. One is stay alert. Two is start packing up you valuables. And three is get the hell out.

My prayers are with everyone who is close to the fire. I hope that the firefighters stay safe, the families in danger stay safe and that everyone keeps a cool head. Two of my friends live close to the fire and are on evacuation notice level one. Also my uncle works for the forest service. He quite often is called out on fires. I just want everyone to stay safe and out of harms way.

Anyways, you now know what hicks (just kidding) do for fun...They watch wildfires!
